#30SecondBible: Jude

Hey Jude

By Mandy Meisenheimer

Hey Jude, You are a short, ferocious, simile-filled letter about some people who are infiltrating the church. We don’t know exactly what these people are up to but you mention sexual misconduct, problems with authority, and obsession with money. They are manipulative, arrogant, and divisive. They take advantage of the loving kindness of the church and they are dangerous. Does that sound familiar?

  1. When was a time that you experienced manipulative, arrogant, and divisive people in a faith community?
  2. How do you see people taking advantage of the loving kindness of the church in our world today?

This Is Wrong

By Mandy Meisenheimer

The church exists to extend the love of Jesus to the weak, the poor, the young, the old, the down-and-out, and the powerless. But it doesn’t always work out that way. In the sanctuary of vulnerable expressions of love we will always find those who seek to use that space for power or glory or lust. People are abused in the name of Jesus Christ. The book of Jude reminds us that this is wrong.

  1. In your own words, why does the church exist?
  2. What should the church do when she doesn't live up to her calling in the world?
